I'm So Easily Amused!
So if you happen to know me well enough, you know that I LOVE Math!!! I know, it's a little nerdy of me, but I'm being serious. I turn everything into an equation - it's really kind of odd! See that was a math joke! Anyway, I stumbled upon this video and wanted to share! Basically, your phone number can be figured out by following a series of math operations. I know my 6th graders will LOVE it. And the best part about it is they won't even realize how much math they are doing to figure it all out. Hope you are as easily amused as I was with this!

Alright, I'll admit it, I really do have a few "resolutions" that I'd like to work on. Here they are:
Professionally:
1. Get more involved with Facebook to connect with other teachers.
2. Spend more time making activities to keep my 6th Graders engaged.
3. Get a good grasp on the Common Core Standards for Math!
Personally:
1. Read more books.
2. Complete another triathlon ~ I did Iron Girl last year and want to do more!
3. Related to number 2, conquer my fears of the water!

It's a New Year's Give Away!
It's a new year which means it's a new me! I'm not really one for resolutions, but I am one to change things up a bit. Which is why I have decided to put some of my TeachersPayTeachers items as free! Anyone that knows me well knows that I LOVE my Smartboard at school. I literally can't get enough of it. I love creating new lessons with it and the attendance boards are my absolute favorite - and my students. Morning times can be pretty chaotic in any classroom. So, I created these attendance boards so that my students can be in charge of attendance while I get to focus my attention on the other things that are going on. Below are 5 of my attendance boards that I wanted to share with everyone for FREE. I'm also including a couple math sheets that I hope you middle school teachers can use. Hope you enjoy!

The Simple Things in Life
Do you ever come across a website and are instantly excited? That happened to me today and I wanted to pass it on to all of you. You might already be aware of this site, but I couldn't help myself! This is perfect for all of those vocabulary words that we require the kids to learn. I'm doing a unit on Ancient Egypt right now and this is going to be just what the kids need. My plan is to give each student a vocabulary word and then send them, in groups, to this site. Then, they can list all of the words related to the vocabulary word. They'll be studying and NOT even know it! I hope you enjoy it as much as I am! If anyone has any other ideas for these word clouds, please feel free to share....I'm always looking to change things up a bit.

Happy Veteran's Day
A special thank you to all of those men and women that have served our country!
I recently went to a workshop where I was shown a video on marshmallows! Not sure if any of you have ever had the chance to watch it, so I'm adding it in today. The premise behind it is to see how delaying gratification in young children predicts future success. If nothing else, the video will definitely get you thinking and laughing! The children are absolutely adorable and it just goes to show you that instant gratification seems to win every time! Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

I also wanted to let you know about a fun Thanksgiving Products Linky Party that's going on. Check it out at: http://publicschoolteachersodyssey.blogspot.com/2011/11/thanksgiving-products-linky-party.html

The Joys of Teaching
So, I was super excited - I started a blog, got on to Facebook and even got some followers! It was going along great, and then I got the flu! I know, it's part of the teacher's job description. But, I swear, I did NOT see this one coming. I've had a fever and aches and pains for four days! Did I mention that grades close today and report cards are due early next week??? And the emails that keep coming in. It's great that I can check my school email from home, but it's starting to stress me out. Parent conferences are right around the corner. The best part of all - I got a new student! The poor thing - she's had a different teacher all week. I know you have all been there before. Please tell me it's going to get better.

Happy November!
This is my first post - and boy am I hoping that I get this right! My goal is to publish some of my fun teaching materials - so be on the lookout for some ideas and some freebies! I thought it would be appropriate for my first freebie to go along with November. So, you Smartboard enthusiasts will hopefully like this. I like to take attendance on my Smartboard every morning and this is one of the files! This is normally on my TPT store for a small fee, but I wanted to offer it for free - hope you enjoy! And be sure to check out all of my attendance boards on TeachersPayTeachers!
